I will preface this diary by saying that this post is in no way trying to favor a religion. I know all of us here have our beliefs and I respect that. What I am trying to do in this diary is offer a possible outcome to a hypothetical situation. I welcome any feedback.
When Jesus was alive, he preached a message of love and compassion to all human beings. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes did not like the radical teachings of this man. You have to remember that these people were the establishment and thus repesented the elite of Jewish society. To them holding onto power was important and any message contrary to this order was anathema. In the end, Jesus was crucified for what he preached, believed, and practiced. The followers of Jesus were also persecuted for they also believed his teachings and they too represented a danger to the status quo.
The Religious Right of today, portrays itself as the moral majority of the United States. To them all other religions and other Christian sects are lesser religions to them. For the Religious Right, Jesus is a conservative Republican who favors the rich and wants war. Jesus is also very homophobic and anti-change. The basis for this is a strict adhereance to the Old Testament of the Bible. However, the Religious Right forgets that the Bible also has the New Testament. This New Testament shows the way Jesus acted, lived, preached, and loved. Every single thing the Religious Right stands for is actually contradicted by Jesus' actions. Jesus said, turn the other cheek and blessed are the poor. He also dined with Zaccheus the tax collector for Jesus came to call sinners to the table. The Religious Right forgets that Jesus is about Love of God and love of thy neighbor. He also says to forgive those who wrong you 70 times 7.
I believe that if Christ came back, the Religious Right would label him as crazy, the Anti-Christ, or a blasphemer. The message of Jesus is antithetical to the message of the Religious right. In the end, Jesus may go through the same ordeal as he did before or he may be smeared by the right. In any case, Jesus' coming would immediately show the hypocrisy of the Religious Right. The Son of God would come back again to preach his message, but the right would go against him because his message threatens the base of beliefs for the Religious Right. The same people who profess to love Christ and follow his teachings would turn their backs on him.
I also believe that Christ would not show his/her fact to these hypocritical snakes. I believe Christ would show himself/herself in the most insignificant of people. He would not go for glare and glitz, but rather humility.
People come and go out of our lives and sometimes we do not notice them. It is these people in which Christ manifests his/her presence. We only notice them until when they are gone, but we are left with a special feeling; a realization that those people helped our life. I can say with honesty that people have come and gone with some of them affecting my life for the better. This is were Christ leaves his/ her mark.
Once again, I welcome feedback to this post. I also repeat that I am not endorsing Christianity over any other religion. I am only making a point.
